Get to know this year's Richmond Chapter board members!
Colleen Mescall, MHA/E, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I,
ICD-10 Instructor, AAPC Fellow
Colleen has worked in the health care field for over 31 years and has been a Certified Professional Coder since 2000. In November 2011 Colleen obtained her Masters in Health Administration with an Emphasis on Education.
Colleen has also worked in the billing, coding, audit, training, and registration areas of health care industry in a variety of settings; working with hospitals, group practices and for the Department of Defense. Colleen also teaches coding and billing in Richmond Va. Colleen’s current position as the Associate Administrator of CDI is to provide quality assurance reviews and ensure compliance with Federal Documentation Guidelines, educate providers and staff in provider documentation and to ensure the billing and coding is accurate and correct.
Anissa B. Miller, CPC
Anissa has worked in the medical field here in Richmond, VA for over 25 years and became a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) by the AAPC in 2009.
Anissa has worked in various positions within the medical field over that time, from front desk registration to billing, coding, auditing and education within single and group practices.
She is currently employed at VCU Health as a Quality Assurance Reviewer. She educates providers on how to improve their documentation based on the Federal Documentation guidelines. She also audits coders and provides feedback to make sure they understand all elements of E&M coding to ensure providers are receiving proper credit when documented. She holds education sessions with provider groups as well as coder groups to bring awareness to areas of concern.
When not working, Anissa enjoys reading and relaxing. She has been married for 25+ years and has 2 great kids.
Liz McCormick, CPC, CPB
Liz is the new Education officer for 2018 and has previously served as the member development officer.
Liz has worked in medical insurance for 20 years before she was laid off during a reorganization of the company and spent the next few years working in related fields until she was once again laid off.
Liz was fortunate enough to be hired by Bon Secours as a Patient Representative and was given the opportunity to take a course to become a CPC. One year later took the CPB exam. Liz have been working as a coder/biller, specializing in E&M since obtaining my CPC certification.
In her spare time, Liz spends as much time as possible spoiling her adorable grandson, Dryver and her furbabies (1 dog-Stella and 1 cat-Gracie, both rescues).
Ramona Talmazan is a Professional Medical Coder and a Medical Biller with over 6 years of experience in the medical field. She currently works for VCU Health and serves as a coder for the Departments of Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Pain Management.
Ramona, in her current position, serves as an educator for new team members and providers. Her experience includes proficiency with ICD -10, CPT and HCPCS codes. She is also very familiar with National and Local Insurance guidelines and determinations. Ramona is very passionate about coding education, auditing and clinical documentation improvement. During her years of experience, she educated several providers and medical offices on proper coding and compliance.
Outside of her career, Ramona is a mother of 2, she was born in Romania and moved to the United States after graduating college. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and is fluent in several foreign languages. Ramona loves being a part of our Richmond AAPC Chapter and would now love to be more involved in educational coding events in hopes of helping new and seasoned coders with any questions they might have.
Jeannie Peddicord, CPC, CPB, CPPM
Jeannie Peddicord is a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Biller with over 20 years of experience in medical billing and medical claims processing.
For 7 years, she has managed an Internal Medicine practice, and recently earned her certification as a Certified Physician Practice Manager. Her management style has fostered an environment where each team member knows that they are valued, and they all work together to care for their patients, and each other. Promoting a bond among her staff has generated many compliments from patients, who enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
Jeannie works hard, but she also finds time to play.
She loves to travel, and has been to St. Thomas, Costa Rica, Ireland, Hawaii, England/Scotland/Wales, and Cancun.
She also loves rafting the white water down the New River in West Virginia, and outdoor concerts featuring ‘70s and ‘80s dance music.
Jeannie has been married for 36 years, and has always lived in the Richmond area.
Gabrielle Mizell, CPC, CPB, CEMC, CUC
Gabrielle has a total of 20 years in the healthcare related field. This has allowed a wide range of experience starting as a financial counselor then to insurance specialist.
In 2010 she graduated from a local medical billing and coding program with honors which allowed her to progress into coding, auditing and physician education.
Her current role includes coding surgical cases and auditing E&M services as well as providing education and support to patient accounting staff and providers on proper coding and documentation requirements.
Gabrielle looks forward to serving our Richmond AAPC Chapter and becoming more active in educational events in hopes of sharing my knowledge with our group.
